We must stop using and discarding plastic. Eighty percent of plastics in the ocean end up there because of plastic that flew off the land or was washed away from highways and cities and travelled by rivers to end up in the oceans all over the world. Ninety percent of waste in the oceans is made up of plastics. ENEP calculated in 2006 that 18,000 pieces of plastic are floating in or on every km\u00b2 of ocean (or 46,000 pieces of plastic per mile\u00b2). Today, this might already be many times more.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fullwidth\">\n<div class=\"x-resp-embed x-is-video x-is-youtube\"><iframe width=\"862\" height=\"485\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iVjue0R5tHQ?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer;
